Log Ride

We've been churnin' our Mini Competitor and Mini Rad Noserider's out like hotcakes lately, seems everyone wants one. These things are a blast, with the perfect balance between performance and enough volume to paddle in fast and early. When the surf's small like it has been, hop on one of these bad boys, it'll save your session for sure. The Mini Comp on the left is 7'4" and goin' to Ryan Walker in Hawaii, on the right a 6'7" Mini Noserider goin' to Oded Bahat. Enjoy.

Check out the Mini Competitor and Rad Noserider on our website here.

Old School

Yesterday we took things back into our own hands. Our good friend Garrett Jones just had another one of our good friends, John Manassero, shape him a new pig. Pulled template, thin rails, super foiled. Ruby cruised out to help him glass it up and get it ready for a swell life ahead of it. Takin' it back before shaping bays and glass houses; no facilities, no temp control. Just resin, tints, squeegees, and some beer to help watch the resin cure.

Assessing the situation and preparing the attack plan.

Gettin' ready to lap those rails

Resin: Good for the board and good for the brain.

Peanuts

"This is one of the oldest Calif. made surfboards in exhistence. It was made in 1937 by Loren Harrison [for George "Peanuts" Larson], from redwood planking he found in a barn. Loren said he put lead in the nose to 'help it drop in.'"

Peanuts is photographed below surfing a 15-or-so-foot wave at Killer Dana circa 1938. This board measures out at 11' long, weighed approximately 113 pounds, had, as mentioned, lead in the nose, pinched "egg" rails, a lot of vee out the tail, and no fin. You read right, no fin and 113 pounds. There aren't too many people who'd take off on a wave that big with 3 fins let alone none. Cruise into the shop and check out the "Peanuts" book published by the Croul Family Foundation, documenting the life of George Larson in South Orange County's surfing subculture in its earliest years.

"I'm not talkin about the way it was, just the way it's never gonna be again."
-Peanuts

No fin, no problem.

Black & Yellow

Just in from our glasser, we've got a 9'9" Gold Label Pig and a stunning 9'8" Stylemaster.

The "Barbacoa" is just that, pulled pork. A slightly pulled pig template, she measures out a 9'9" by 22 3/4" wide by 3 1/2" thick with a 16 1/2" nose and a 17 1/2" tail. Deep yellow resin tint with a gloss finish and a volan fin patch to top her off.

The "Black Beauty" Stylemaster comes in at 9'8" by 23" wide and 3 1/8" thick. Black opaque on top and bottom (not carbon), paisley fabric inlay, white pinlines on the deck, and a gloss finish. This is one of the most beautiful boards we've made in some time, we can't take our eyes off it. Come in and see for yourself before it's gone...

You can also check them out on our online shop.

Order Up

Even with the surf slowing down, nothin's better than sneaking your way into a few barrels, compliments of Taco Bell for their high quality food trays. High tide Aliso was draining pretty hollow and providing some gems through the sunset. Here's Spencer Jones pulling into a mini one on his skimboard.

Kinger Cutty

Here's team rider Matt King on a sick little one throwin' more water on our single fin prototype than most people can on their shortboard. He's been absolutely digging this thing, we just got it back from Kinger after a month! Swing on by the shop and we'll let you demo the single fin if you wanna know what all the fuss is about...

Finding Big Foot

Myself and Mr. Garrett Jones went searching for Big Foot this weekend in Big Bear. We didn't find him, but we did find a leaf or two worth taking a look at...

Second Run

The second of our twin prototypes is finally in and on its way out to Ryan Walker in Hawaii. Deep hook rails and carbon on top and bottom for added strength (this things gonna be in some serious swell at Makaha and on the North Shore!). Gold Label stamp of approval and "Hand-made in America" let's you know its the real deal. Can't wait to see Mr. Walker pulling into some serious barrels on this thing. YEW!

Experimentation

Been ridin' the new twin prototype with this little back trailer the last few sessions, it's amazing how an extra inch of fin can stabilize this thing on even the windiest and choppiest of conditions.

Two for the Money, One for the Show...

I just got my new Gold label twin fin prototype in from glass last week, and could not be any more FROTHING over it. The idea came from my good friend Ryan Walker, who's killing it over on Oahu. He called up and said, "I've got my single fin for when it's small and I've got my gun for when its firing, but I need something in between, for when Makaha is like 8 to 10, can you make me a 6'4" twin fin?" F*&#ing crazy! So much so that I just had to make myself one and try it out over here. These things are insane, I'm running the FCS MR '78 twin set up in it and it's got to be the fastest board I've ever ridden, just flying so fast down the line, and yet they've got plenty of hold thanks to the hook rails out the wings. I opted to throw a back set of plugs to toy around with a trailer for a bit more drive, but I'll tell ya, this puppy's dyyyinnnggg for some juicy swell, something pumping...

Stevie Danger's Stick

Stevie Danger just dropped his 9'2" modified Stylemaster off at the shop and its for sale. 9'2" by 24" by 2 7/8" with a 20 1/4" nose means you'll be spending more time on the nose than with your girlfriend. Solid pink airbrush to match your macho-man iPhone cover, cruise into the shop check her out, or online here.

The Funkiest Man Alive

This morning LAPD found Don Cornelius, the creator and host of Soul Train, dead in his Los Angeles home. Cornelius was truly one of the funkiest men alive, bringing us timeless performances by Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Kool & The Gang, David Bowie, Aretha Franklin, and many many more. So put on your boogie shoes and pay homage to the soul brother by makin' it funky all day long. Here's a little clip of the Soul Train dance line dancin' to Earth Wind & Fire's "Mighty, Mighty". Rest in peace Don Cornelius.
