You're Itchin' Into My Mind

Our good friends Douglas and the Furs are finishing up editing their newest EP, so here's a little sneak peak with their new music video for "You're Itchin' Into My Mind". Enjoy.

Commonwealth

Alright folks, two of our favorite bands, Douglas and the Furs and the Budrows, will be performing together at the Commonwealth in Fullteron tonight at 9pm. Both bands have been killing it as of late, with the Furs on a hot streak, this being the second show of their residency at the Commonwealth, and, as the video below shows, playing a surprise show on the garage rooftop of the Wiltern after Jack White's show last week. The Budrows have been layin' down their foot-stompin' cigar box blues all over Southern California, playing shows at The Redwood Bar in LA, Avalon Bar in Costa Mesa, along the Sunset Strip, and more. So come on out to the Commonwealth tonight and see two of the best up-and-coming artists around (and plus, it's free, so there's no excuse for "not havin' the cover charge").

Barry McGee x Prism

The Prism Gallery in Hollywood just recently held the opening reception for the newest installment by artist Barry McGee. Stemming from the Mission School movement out of San Francisco, Barry's work evolved from the streets as a writer under the monikers of "Twist", "Twisto", "Ray Fong", and others, and into fine art galleries, helping to bridge the gap between street art and the "lowbrow" movement and the fine art world. Here's a few shots from the show, in case you missed.

Fog City

Sorry for the delay folks, we took a little vacation to the City by the Bay. We didn't get too much surf in, but damn if everything under the sun isn't packed into that little peninsula. We also made a detour through Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay, home of the beast from hell itself, Mavericks, on the way home. Here's a little photo album from the adventure. Enjoy.

Mark Cobb has been riding for Steve for over 10 years now, and just picked up his newest sled, a 9'8" Gold Label Stylemaster. Red, yellow, and black resin work on the bottom with a baby blue tint on top and the "Gold Label" stamp of approval to finish it off. What a beauty.

Neon Kinger

Matt King cruised in last weekend and picked up a new stick, and he decided he wanted to get all sortsa colorful with it. So with the help of Ruby and 4 cans of spray paint, you'll be able to find Kinger within 10 miles of any break, a fluorescent blurr hangin' above the lip.

Douglas and the Furs

Rock n' Roll ain't dead, so long as these guys have something to say about it. Douglas and the Furs are a bitchin' three piece band hailing from Anaheim, with John Shively on lead vocals and drums, Douglas McCurdy on lead guitar, and Jared Henderson on bass guitar. There's no bullshit on stage with these three, just straight, face-melting, soul-pounding, rock n' roll. With songs like "Black Eyed Susan"; "…loyal to no man, the power to save, I leave it to Susan when it comes to another man's fate…", the days of poppy, hip, meaningless lyrics are behind us. Douglas and the Furs are on their way to jump starting a hard rock revival, true to its roots. S U P E R P O L L O. Post surf grind in Costa Mesa a few days ago. The pollo is super and the place is legit, straight outta Mexico, complete with surfing chicken.

Peanuts

"This is one of the oldest Calif. made surfboards in exhistence. It was made in 1937 by Loren Harrison [for George "Peanuts" Larson], from redwood planking he found in a barn. Loren said he put lead in the nose to 'help it drop in.'"

Peanuts is photographed below surfing a 15-or-so-foot wave at Killer Dana circa 1938. This board measures out at 11' long, weighed approximately 113 pounds, had, as mentioned, lead in the nose, pinched "egg" rails, a lot of vee out the tail, and no fin. You read right, no fin and 113 pounds. There aren't too many people who'd take off on a wave that big with 3 fins let alone none. Cruise into the shop and check out the "Peanuts" book published by the Croul Family Foundation, documenting the life of George Larson in South Orange County's surfing subculture in its earliest years.

Black & Yellow

Just in from our glasser, we've got a 9'9" Gold Label Pig and a stunning 9'8" Stylemaster. 

The "Barbacoa" is just that, pulled pork. A slightly pulled pig template, she measures out a 9'9" by 22 3/4" wide by 3 1/2" thick with a 16 1/2" nose and a 17 1/2" tail. Deep yellow resin tint with a gloss finish and a volan fin patch to top her off. 

The "Black Beauty" Stylemaster comes in at 9'8" by 23" wide and 3 1/8" thick. Black opaque on top and bottom (not carbon), paisley fabric inlay, white pinlines on the deck, and a gloss finish. This is one of the most beautiful boards we've made in some time, we can't take our eyes off it. Come in and see for yourself before it's gone...
